STRABAG Real Estate (SRE) and the S+B Group build an education, residential and innovation campus at the New Danube
Ground-breaking for modern educational campus celebrated
Completion planned by summer 2024
Starting signal for the DC Waterline project in Vienna's Donau City: The project partners S+B Group and STRABAG Real Estate (SRE) invited guests to the ground-breaking ceremony for the first construction phase, the education campus, on November 29, 2022. Modern educational space for a bilingual school and kindergarten facility is being created on more than 7,500 sqm plus open space. In addition, an innovation campus and flats for musicians are also planned on the approximately 14,000 sqm site directly on the banks of the New Danube.
The international concept for a school campus
Construction work on the three-storey educational campus, which has been fully pre-let to Stella International School, has been underway since October 2022. Four kindergarten groups, eight primary school classes and 16 secondary school classes will find a new home in the D-City from September 2024. "Creativity needs space and new thoughts require new perspectives and variety. The new premise creates the conditions for our children to be able to spend their school careers carefree," says Heidi Burkhart, CEO of Stella International School.
Open childcare areas, modern classrooms and multimedia rooms, as well as spacious outdoor areas on the campus roof are intended to offer childcare workers and children enough space for mutual exchange and lively interaction. "Lengthy discussions and many planning ideas preceded the forward-looking design," Wolfdieter Jarisch, CEO of S+B Gruppe AG, clarifies this design process.
In the next construction phases, a promising innovation campus and modern music flats will be built in addition to the education building.
Quote fromErol Milo
“With the different mix of uses for the buildings, we are further enhancing the premise. In addition to the exclusive DC Residential project, we are now setting another milestone and developing a future-oriented quarter directly at the New Danube.”
Modern and sustainable building concepts
Sustainability was also considered in the DC Waterline project: For example, photovoltaic systems on individual buildings reduce energy costs. Green roofs store water, compensate for temperature differences, filter dust and noise and are substitute habitats for animals and plants.
Located directly on the banks of the New Danube and in the immediate vicinity of the UNO City, the project scores points above all with its central location: It only takes a few minutes by underground to reach Vienna's historic city centre, and the 21 km long Danube Island stretches out in front of the door. Other recreational areas such as Donaupark, Alte Donau, and Wiener Prater are also nearby. Basically, planned as a car-free zone, the project also includes sufficient car and motorbike parking spaces, equipped with e-charging stations.
Everything new in D-City
The DC Waterline joint project is a further step in the D-City developed by the S+B Group, which has already been undergoing a modern transformation for several years. "The design of D-City with different usage concepts will succeed in further revitalising the quarter - we are already looking forward to bringing even more life here to this wonderful site in Vienna," says Wolfdieter Jarisch, Member of the Management Board of the S+B Group.
